job summary

This position will be responsible for performing hands-on insulation tasks on maintenance and construction projects utilizing a variety of materials and tools. Adheres to jobsite safety in accordance with all federal, state and local occupational and health safety laws.

essential functions and basic duties:

  1. Responsibilities
    1. Remove and install insulation based on specifications of each job.
    2. Install insulation on piping and ductwork.
    3. Remove and reinstall insulation as needed to facilitate repairs to piping and ductwork.
    4. Follow standard operation procedures with equipment setup and operation.
    5. Loading and/or unloading trailers.
    6. Equipment operation.
    7. Continuous improvement of customer service, quality, efficiency and safety.
    8. Accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasks performed, materials used and processes involved.
    9. Advise immediate supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.
    10. Accomplish tasks by working from job plans, verbal instructions, schematics, blueprints, documents, vendor/manufacturer manuals and applicable specifications and codes.
  2. Coordinate workflow with all McElroy’s departments.
    1. Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information.
    2. Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy and compliance to standards and specifications.
  3. Perform various other job-related responsibilities.

  1. Perform tasks outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme cold weather.
  2. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
  3. Recognize needs/problems and correct them independently.
  4. Must be highly detail oriented, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and possess a high degree of problem-solving capabilities.



1.        Training, education, or certification:

  • Experience with pipe and ductwork insulation, construction and maintenance of commercial and/or industrial framework.

2.         Knowledge:

  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications and diagrams.
  • Possess the competencies, willingness and ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to complete a high quality job while maintaining efficiency.
  • Maintain a professional image and thoroughly clean jobsite upon completion of the job.
  • Abide by all company processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, follow through all assigned projects to completion, and utilize all available resources in the accomplishment of tasks.

3.         Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors.
  • Knowledge of construction or related trades preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to work in tight spaces and heights.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from worksites.
  • Effective communication skills, written and spoken.
  • Must have a great attitude, positive mindset and be a team player.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check upon job offer.

Internal Contacts – All office staff and team members of large commercial projects.

Physical Demands – Ability to stand for long periods of time. Involves walking, standing, reaching,  stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or climbing ladders.
