Service Brit Hunsicker: 15 Years of Dedicated Service
July 13, 2026“Brit always puts the customer first, making sure they’re thoroughly satisfied with our service,” said Nick Newsom, McElroy’s commercial HVAC service supervisor. “He’s a member of the extended McElroy family, so his pride in the company is personal. He’s very detail oriented and gives his all to every project.” On July 13, 2026, we honor Brit Hunsicker, commercial HVAC service sales, on his 15th anniversary with McElroy’s. We applaud the passion Brit puts into helping our commercial HVAC service team meet our customers’ needs – with the best solutions, done right the first time.
Fourth Generation in HVAC
Brit grew up in the Shawnee Heights school district, southeast of Topeka. He is the son of Greg Hunsicker, leader of McElroy’s residential HVAC team, and great-grandson of the company’s founder, Homer McElroy. From his grade-school years on, Brit spent a lot of time with Greg, learning about the HVAC business. The latest developments in HVAC were tested in the Hunsicker home, like heated floors and tankless water heaters. “It was interesting working with dad,” Brit said. “I knew from an early age I wanted to help carry on the family legacy.”
A Satisfying Living
While in high school, Brit worked for McElroy’s each summer, helping with residential HVAC installations. He simultaneously attended Washburn Tech, studying electrical work and HVAC, earning an associate’s degree in industrial science. Brit considered going to a university for an engineering degree, but he already knew he liked working with his hands. “High schools should encourage careers in the trades more,” said Brit. “People will always need local experts for their heating and cooling. You can make a satisfying living without the time and expense of a four-year college degree.”
Customer Interaction
Immediately after graduation, Brit went to work for McElroy’s full time in residential HVAC. Later, when McElroy’s needed help in the warehouse, Brit went to work there. He was warehouse manager for most of 2017 and 2018 – making sure every technician had the tools and materials necessary to take great care of each customer. But Brit missed customer interaction. “In the field, I was in a new house every day, meeting people,” Brit explained. “Many times, they’d know my family and I’d know theirs. I enjoyed that.” When an opportunity opened up in commercial HVAC sales at McElroy’s, Brit was ready for it.
Engaged Communicator
“Brit offers a lot of youthful enthusiasm that comes through in his customer relationships,” said Keith Watkins, McElroy’s VP and leader of the commercial HVAC service department. “He fully engages with customers, asks smart questions and takes time to understand their needs. Customers are confident they’re being seen and heard. Brit’s communication with the field team is also strong. Our techs know Brit cares about the details of each project and is giving the team the information they need to succeed.”
Thinking Ahead
“In the last five years, commercial HVAC service volume has doubled,” Brit said. “We’re bidding more, and larger, projects and our team has grown to suit.” Brit has enhanced his abilities to balance more projects and see that each job has the right team, materials and equipment. He also invests time and thought in understanding a job’s needs and potential challenges. “If I can anticipate and solve an issue before we even start, that helps us stay ahead. Properly preparing our team for the work helps them get everything done quickly and correctly!”
Friendly and Helpful
“Brit is very friendly and takes a personal interest in his relationships with customers and our team,” said Jason Long, also in commercial HVAC service sales for McElroy’s. “He’s always willing to help, whether it’s a customer calling with an emergency at 3:00 on a Tuesday morning, or one of our field techs needing assistance at 7:00 on a Friday evening. He’ll talk the situation through to a solution, or personally come out to help. Brit’s the same way outside of work. He’s a friend you can count on!”
lake Life
While Brit frequently goes above and beyond for others, he values and prioritizes his family. Brit and his wife, Kate, live north of Overbrook in the Richland area. Kate works remotely for a State Farm Insurance Agency in Olathe, providing insurance for property, casualty, life, home and auto. Their daughter, Caroline, is nearing age three and their son, Kevin, just turned one. Brit and Kate first met at a Pomona Lake ski show in 2012 and their favorite pastime remains lake activities. “We share with Kate’s mother a home with a dock on Pomona Lake, and we’re there practically every weekend,” said Brit. “We like to swim and boat, wakeboard, and barefoot ski.”
75-Year Tradition
A large percentage of the commercial HVAC service department’s growth has come through referrals. “When people ask around, they’ll hear good things about McElroy’s,” Brit said. “We’ve been here 75 years and are known for the value of our service. Our prices are competitive, and more importantly, we do the right things in the right ways, always standing behind our work.” Brit is aware he has the legacy of three generations of McElroy family and employees standing behind – and beside – him as well. Brit puts his heart and energy into keeping that tradition of trustworthy service alive and growing!
